Texas Water Utilities Panhandle Region
"Formed in the Texas Panhandle, we have made it easy for members to attend monthly meetings," said Vickie Long, "we meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month." Members earn two hours of credit toward their certification on water or wastewater or both if they hold both. In order to qualify for the credit, the meetings must include peer-to-peer time and an educational program related to water and the wastewater industry and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will award licensing credit to members attending each meeting. Practices Have Changed Regarding Old Wind Turbines
One of the concerns about wind farms that we hear the most is what happens to the old, eventually broken-down turbines. Anna Richey is with Apex Energy, a company that is currently working to bring a new wind farm to Hansford, Hutchinson and Sherman Counties. She explained, “There is a commitment that we make that when it is done, we remove them, so no one is going to be stuck looking at these non-spinning turbines. The industry is evolving so fast. When I started in this area just a handful of years ago, there weren’t recycling places for these turbines. There was nowhere for them to go domestically. Now, there are places all over the place and I think there are about five in Texas alone.” She noted that she knew there were a couple of negative stories regarding a couple of the older projects in Hansford County and said that is definitely not the norm. As far as the financial benefit to those counties, she added, “We are talking about 30 years of millions of dollars to the schools and the counties. These are lucrative projects for communities and that’s what we want.” Richey said the project is in the very early stages as they continue to work with landowners and get agreements signed. | ||

It was a beautiful evening with visitors from the community and other areas around the country. There were 163 star gazers who attended and saw planets, stars, star clusters, and the moon through a number of large telescopes. The next star party will be held on June 15th, weather permitting. Jay Eschenberg Creates Photo Essay of Smokehouse Creek Wild Fire
 Jay Eschenberg is a photojournalist living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When Jay became aware of the devastating fires that had occurred in Fritch and surrounding communities, he traveled to the area to create a stunning photo shoot of the charred land. 71-year-old Eschenberg has been working for almost 60 years primarily involved in two careers--- Investigation (both Law
Enforcement and Private) and photography, cinematography and media production
of various kinds. He spent a good deal of his time in his late teens and twenties in
the radio business, working as a DJ and Program Director. Today he still
develops and produces a wide range of audio (and radio-related) programming
content in a fully equipped home studio and has even syndicated
some. "My audio work has also included doing voice-over and audio-for-film and video...and I have even composed and produced some musical scores, which calls upon some (almost forgotten) skills from another life when, while in my teens, I traveled as a musician with some (much older) touring bands," says Jay. read more about Eschenberg by clicking (more) | ||
Bryson "Killa B" Barron Gives Local Supporters Cause For Celebration
On Saturday night, on the eve of Easter Sunday, Stinnett, Texas's Bryson "Killa B" Barron, gave his local supporters in attendance at the Payne Expo Event Center in Stillwater, OK cause for an early celebration. Producing the first and most convincing TKO stoppage of the card at Rage In The Cage 98, the 17-year-old senior at West Texas High, came out of the gate with a calm but focused approach, of which is consistent with the culture of his coach and mentor, Josh Smith. Carefully built he maintains his build with his and owner Vic Cobos' Black Dragon Martial Arts Gym and Dojo of Borger, Texas. Standing at an imposing 6'1 260 pounds, Barron got the job done 17 seconds into the opening stanza after a kick he threw to his opponent, Joshua Bisor, 21, left thigh was caught by Bisor and held onto. Unfortunately for the Oklahoman, the moment was immediately seized back by Bryson, as he landed a thudding straight right-hand square on Bisor's chin. The impact of the shot was enough to plant him on the deck, too buzzed to effectively defend the punishing series of hammer strikes "Killa B" followed with after. Rendering his opponent senseless as the referee quickly waved off the contest, Bryson lifted his heavy hands up to signal victory. The act would launch his many enthusiastic supporters cage side to their feet, in celebration of the Hutchinson County kids emphatic win. "Man, I just expected and prepared mentally and physically for everything that could go wrong. I trusted in what my team and I practiced. I knew I was ready for battle," Barron humbly expressed afterward. Coach Smith nodded in agreement, "Bryson is a great kid. He has unlimited potential, and his effort has already taken him halfway around the world." Barron had also recently won gold in a BJJ tournament in Abu Dhabi. "The scary thing is he is still only in the early phases of his journey. From here we go back home, get a short but quality rest, and get right back in the gym," added Smith. ***It's worth noting that Bryson is the son of former chute fighter Ricky Barron, who shared the cage with Texas MMA legends such as Heath Herron and the late Evan Tanner of UFC fame. | ||
Phillips 66 Donates to BMS Science Carnival
The local chapters of the New Hire Network, Hispanic Network, Women's Network, and Veteran's Network collected and donated prizes and snacks for the event where students can review STAAR questions by playing games. Many members of these networks also volunteered to work booths at the carnival.
